At a time when the entire planet is facing
considerable challenges, everyone is being asked to
join in on the big adventure of sustainable development.
The new expression "eco-citizen" leads us to think about
our role, our actions and our responsibilities as simple inhabitants
of the Earth.
It is in this context that a group of Quebeckers has set up a Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on education for sustainable development in Montreal. Developed from an international concept from the United Nations University (UNU), this Centre of Expertise is located in Montreal, but its activities cover all regions of Quebec, and its benefits will be felt by the entire Quebec population.
"Think locally, act globally" is behind the thoughts of a core group of partners wanting to act in response to local problems, and give rise to the development of eco-citizenship behaviour. Having initiated a concept focused on life styles, these founding partners have joined with a wide range of participants working on education for and research in sustainable development. They are determined to promote public awareness that will develop behaviour that acknowledges the indivisible character of environmental, social and economic dimensions.
Recognized by the UNU as a leader of the French-speaking countries in this area, the Montreal RCE stands out with its uniquely French and multicultural population and with the undeniably natural attractions of its territory.
Confident about this collective commitment, we are proud to welcome you, as citizens of the Earth, and tell you about our mission, share with you our accomplishments and talk about some of our ongoing projects.
Enjoy your visit!
